The Fort Worth Police Historical Association wanted to celebrate the department’s rich history with the design of a badge that would honor the 100th anniversary of the Fort Worth Police Panther Badge.
On the morning of June 9th, 1912 Chief Renfro assembled his officers at the Fort Worth City Hall.
At 9:00am Chief Renfro asked the officers to remove the shield badge that they had been issued and began passing out the Panther Badge.
For the 1st time, the officers pinned the panther badge on their uniforms.
On June 9th, 2012 the officers of the Fort Worth Police Department will re-enact that event as it occurred 100 years ago.
Fort Worth is very unique in that they belong to a handful of police departments in the United States to have worn the same badge for 100 years.
The first event scheduled in 2012 will be the Fort Worth Police Historical Association Open House. The focus will be on the Panther Badge and the history of the Fort Worth Police Department. Also on display will be an interactive exhibit featuring Fort Worth CSI. We are planning this event for March 17th, 2012.
